En el Jardín construimos una serie de estructuras de apoyo: una Estación Meteorológica, un Planetario y un Invernadero de unos 60 m2. Este Invernadero lo inauguramos en 1989 y se utilizó para realizar todo tipo de experimentos relacionados con los vegetales (por ejemplo, como vivero de árboles y arbustos autóctonos). Con el paso del tiempo, el plástico se fue deteriorando y la estructura de hierro oxidando, dejando de ser utilizado en 1995. A partir del curso 1997-1998, nos acogimos al Proyecto Medioambiental "Voz Natura" de "Grupo Voz". Con el dinero conseguido con este primer proyecto, desde el Departamento de Ciencias se organizó un grupo de trabajo de alumnos que se ocupó de reconstruir el Invernadero, para lo cual tuvimos que lijar los hierros, sustituir algunos muy deteriorados, colocar los plásticos para cubrirlo, las bridas de sujeción, etc.

 

In the garden, we built a series of supporting structures: a weather station, a planetarium and a greenhouse of about 60 m2. This greenhouse was inaugurated in 1989 and was used to carry out different experiments on plants (for example, as a nursery for autochthonous trees and bushes). But, in the course of time, the plastic cover was worn out and the iron structure got rusty; therefore, this greenhouse was not used any longer in 1995. From the School year 1997-98 we took the Environmental Project called “Voz Natura” organized by the “Grupo Voz”. With the money obtained with this first project, the Department of Sciences organized a working team which took the responsability for rebuilding the greenhouse; this involved the polishing of the iron structure, the replacement of some deteriorated pieces, the covering of this structure with a new plastic, the placing of fastening clips, etc.

      
 

Además fue preciso preparar la tierra, para lo cual fue cavada y removida la tierra del interior del Invernadero. Posteriormente en unas mesas de germinación pusimos distintos semilleros con diversos tipos de plantas. Estas plantas también fueron colocadas directamente sobre el suelo, ya que en el caso de árboles y arbustos que nos donó la Consellería de Medio Ambiente o la Concelía de Parques y Jardines del Ayuntamiento de Monforte, no era posible el colocarlas en pequeñas macetas.

 

It was also necessary to prepare the soil inside the greenhouse, ploughing and digging it up. Later, we placed several seedbeds with different varieties of plants on germination tables. We also planted some of them directly in the ground, as, for example, those which had been donated by the Enviromental Departments of the Regional and Local Authorities, since being trees and bushes they could not be planted on small flowerpots.

 
      

     

Hay un grupo de alumnos que se encarga de cuidar y mantener el Invernadero. Este grupo está muy incentivado con este trabajo. Cuando las plantas ya se pueden transplantar es usual que los alumnos encargados de cuidarlas, las regalen a sus compañeros o público en general.

 

There exists a group of students which takes care and maintains the greenhouse. The group is highly motivated with the work. When the plants are ready to be transplanted, frequently these students give them to their friends or the general public.
